Our studies are based around the BBC Italian Talk 2 course, which includes a textbook and two CD’s. This introduces practical speech. Although we cover some grammar this tends to be an explanation of the words rather than a rote learning exercise. We aim to absorb the language by repeated use of phraseology.
In addition our meetings incorporate some reading and translation to improve our knowledge of the structure. The texts are taken from various sources, including Italian magazines and articles covering aspects of life in Italy, and some conversation exercises from various textbooks.
We also play some games, such as bingo, to help consolidate our knowledge of numbers and others which prompt conversation.
We meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 9.30.
